About the Company

Théâtre Deuxième Réalité was founded in 1995 by Alexandre Marine, Vitali Makarov and Maria Monakhova.

The parallel reality has always been the object of T2R's artistic pursuit. Each new work proved the existence of a parallel reality as the signal governing force of the everyday. The artistic and aesthetic method of T2R consists of the staged reproduction of this reality. It is in the captivating reality of our dreams, hidden desires and unfulfilled acts, as well as in the "home" of our happiness: the memories from childhood...

Among the dramaturgical themes in which the company has interested itself we can isolate the most vital question for the artist: "what is art?" as well as the artist's choice between art and the artificial. The other theme is the object of art - a person, who in the midst of a catastrophe is suddenly obliged to face their own illusions and their own time. After all, each one of us feels the speed and the flow of time at their own pace; each one of us needs the courage to lose their own illusions, as well as to create new ones. These are the issues that we present to our audience.

From the moment of its conception, T2R has presented 15 productions to the Montreal public: The Emigrants by S. Mrozek (1995, 1996, 1997), The Swan by E. Egloff (1996),Nous Autres, a play by A. Marine based on Zamyatin's novel, Le Marchand de Sable, a play by A. Marine based on the novella by E.T.A. Hoffmann (1998), Hamlet by Shakespeare (1999, 2000), La Salle Numéro 6, a stage fantasy by A. Marine based on the work by Chekhov, Le Laquais, a play by A. Marine based on a Chekhov short story (2001), Ne jetez pas de cendre par terre by E. Skorokhodova (2001, 2002), Le Silence 2 by A.
